Castelvecchio : bult in 1355 by the Scaligeri kings, it now hosts a medieval museum
and a public library.

after the defeat of the Scaligeri in the 14th century the castle has been property of  german kings,
of the Carraresi, of the Venetians, and ultimately used as north-italian headquarter
by the Wermacht during world war II.

 


inside the museum there are many masterpieces of  Paolo Veronese and Tiziano,
as well as a rare collection of  precious medieval books

the Ponte di Castelvecchio, connecting Castelvecchio with the Arsenale and Borgo Trento

from here during the Napoleonic brutal invasion of the city there was a massacre
of  french soldiers by the city's army (the Dalmatini) and the popular militia.
The uprise is remembered as the Pasque Veronesi and still consired very
important since it symbolize the fight of Verona against the giacobins
and the defence of christianity.
